Kobach: the Brownback Experiment on Steroids

Just why was Brownback so unpopular?

Was it that he just about bankrupted the state?

Was it that he raised taxes on the working and middle class while Not just cutting taxes on business but ELIMINATING their state taxes altogether.

Was it that he did not use the federal money available to help lower income people with their Medical Insurance bills.

Was it that he took money for infrastructure (Roads and bridges) to help balance his ‘experiment’.

Or was it that he did not properly fund Education and a Judge had to step in and restore the proper funding for our children.

Were we all just ‘lab rats’ for his experiment? That’s how I feel about it.

Kobach has already said he would go right back to the ‘experiment’.  That the ‘experiment’ did not have enough “Time” to work.

I read Brownback’s 2019 State Budget Proposal and 95.4 % of the State’s general Fund would have been paid for by the working and middle class while the business owners would have paid 4.6 %.  Even the Republican controlled House and Senate voted to backtrack and restore the taxes on business before the State could not pay the bills.

Never, I mean Never has there be a clearer choice for Governor.

Swamp at Kansas Dept of Revenue

The decisions I make — the negotiation whether that was a good decision or a bad decision — is going to be between me and my boss. Not between me and the public, because I wasn’t elected. I was appointed,” Williams said.

Sam Williams is the Kansas Secretary of the Dept. of Revenue and just gave a $53 million contract to CGI Federal to ‘fix’ the department’s IT website AND run the department’s IT services.  The ‘new’ system 6 years late and millions already spent.

And FIRE 56 Kansans employees that worked in that department.

And awarded the contract 1 day after the Legislature session was over so there would not be any oversight.    Hey, even Republican Senators (and the Democrat Senators) were surprised and upset by this heavy handed use of state funding.

I could go on about the contract but it is Secretary Williams attitude that bothers me the most.  ‘The Public doesn’t matter’ , only my boss (Governor Brownback, who appointed him, now Coyler) matters.

Secretary Williams:

Gets an ‘A’ for Honesty–F’ for Accountability (we pay your salary, not the Governor) — ‘F’  for Transparency (Even Laura Kelly (on the Budget committee) had trouble getting a copy of that Contract)– “F” for Customer relations.

We need a new Governor and FIRE Mr. Williams.   Sounds like a deep swamp to me.

Vote Democratic for Governor.

Understanding Progress

42 Years of Republican State Representation in the 47th District – So Little Progress

What have our representatives been doing?  for how long?

I grew up in Kansas City Kansas.  Bonner Springs was considered the boonies, Tonganoxie might as well be on the other side of the Planet.   There was no 635 or 435 and when I got back to Kansas twenty years later, 435 had 6 lanes and Nobody was using the highway.   A lot of people thought it was a big mistake.  Twenty five years later, It is a packed highway with traffic all day and night especially truck traffic bypassing Kansas City.  Business are now flocking to the area and Olathe is one of the biggest ‘cities’ in the area.  Tonganoxie became a much larger town since highway 40 became 4 lanes and 65 miles an hour.   This is Progress for Kansas.

The person we most have to thank for this is Bob Dole.   He got the federal funds for those roads and he worked hard to improve Kansas.

Twenty five years ago, I moved from Illinois to Valley Falls in Jefferson county.  US 59 was already completed as well as K4.  Kansas highway 16 was resurfaced but no real improvement was done.   And not much has been done since.   We (in Jefferson county) seem to be stuck with no ‘Progress’ for at least 25 years.

It is hard to get to Lawrence since we have to use the winding and dangerous 24 highway or go over the bridge at LeCompton.  To get to Topeka, we have to use K4 which is again a dangerous highway.  Sixty five miles an hour with residential driveways on the road.  We deserve better than this.

The Oakland expressway stops at 24 highway.  Why?

The reason I keep hearing is that there is no money.  But they can spend millions on the I35 in Johnson County.  A free expressway all the way to Emporia.

We have had a Republican Representative in the 47th district for 42 years and Republican Senators in Washington also for years.   I guess Jefferson County just doesn’t matter.   Good and safe roads (as well as good schools) is what brings Progress.

Time for a change. Vote change  in November.
