11/9 Central Committee Meeting

Jefferson county Democrats had their monthly meeting last night. ( 11/09/2018) A couple of things made an impression on me. The most salient for me was the idea that for us to expect different results from those seen in the 2018 midterm election, that is to have more Democrats elected to statewide positions, we we need to start doing something that is different.

Doing something different to my mind, and if I heard folks at the meeting correctly, involves some basic structural changes. First is connecting with young people in the county and convincing them that the Democratic Party has a future in Kansas. Then we need to start building a functional database that campaigns can use to effectively campaign in the county. We need to utilize electronic media via text messaging and social media much more that we have in the past.

George Hanna: Campaigning in 2018 is not the same as campaigning in 1980.

Joy Mestagh: We need to start talking to our county Democrats as Democrats, not as centrist Democrats or right wing Democrats.

I would really like to hear from readers what they think of these ideas and hear any thoughts about how these changes might be brought about. Use the comments section.

70th Jefferson County 4-H Parade

70th Jefferson County 4-H Parade

A new look for the float for this parade.  The full sized flags and larger bunting looked good while the canopy helped keep the riders cool.  Balloons were

courtesy of George Hanna, our candidate for District 47 Representative.

The parade was one of the longest in it’s history and one account had it passing for a full hour and a half.

We had a great turn out of Democrats  to help with the float and to ride.  Photo below shows most of them.  I think that’s MJ in front watching a bug.  Marci is in the front row in the white top with the white hair (like most of the rest of us).  George Hanna and his campaign managers are in the dark Hanna t-shirts. Josh Svaty and Ron Barrett were taking  pictures.

Many thanks to all who pitched in.

First Post – Jeff Co Dems

Jefferson County Democrats

Jeff Co. Democrats have been called “small but mighty.” We certainly will take that as a complement but we need to change the “small” part if we are ever to eat the elephant in Topeka!

Our meetings are open to the public.

Join us every 2nd Thursday at 7pm at the Oskaloosa Library for our monthly meeting. At the meeting you will learn not only how to strengthen the Democrat party within Jefferson County but also might meet your neighbor! We look forward to seeing you there.
